For glasscuttingcheekbones and kachidokidoki~
Ryouma was not great at the greater concepts of the passage of time, day to day shifts, that sort of thing. He generally relied on his computer to keep track of dates of importance for him- when his most recent thesis was due for review, when he had the defense hearing, when to send in whatever articles he might be working on publishing, when to fill out his reports to keep his grants... And that was all just the work stuff.
He did ignore these alerts, sometimes. When he was really fixated on a project, when he had something else on his mind. Sometimes he just couldn't be bothered to leave the lab.
Often he just couldn't be bothered to leave the lab. That was kind of a defining characteristic of his... relationship, as it was, with Takatora and, now, Kouta.
Thing was, he wasn't utterly hopeless, though he was quite sure they might well think he was.
Today, this morning, and then again two hours later, Ryouma's computer had reminded him that it was Kouta's birthday. Kouta's work schedule had been programmed in alongside Takatora's- mostly so Ryouma would have an idea of when they might both be off work simultaneously, in which they might be awful influences on one another and decide they should make an attempt to remove Ryouma from the lab. On those days, he never got involved in anything that couldn't be quickly saved and resumed at a later point in time, though he did still always put up such a fuss- for appearances, obviously.
But for Kouta's birthday, that would be special. Ryouma absolutely believed Takatora would be wanting to take Kouta out somewhere nice for dinner, and Ryouma... Well, he had his own idea of how to surprise Kouta. So, about an hour after Kouta got off work- when he should have arrived at the Tower and, as usual, stopped at Takatora's office first, Ryouma stood outside the lab, waiting for them both.
Not wearing his lab coat. Wearing a nice suit, actually- the only one he owned, and the coat didn't button and he didn't know how to tie a tie, but it was the thought that counts, right? The thought, and the waistcoat.

So when Kouta, as predicted, arrives at his office that day, Takatora is ready for him. Of course he does not give away that he has any idea what the day is. He acts like it's just any other day, and that they'll be going down to Ryouma's lab to coax him away from work.
He brushes shoulders with Kouta as they walk down the winding hallway toward Ryouma's lab, watching him as they go, wondering what he's thinking.

Well, okay, so maybe he is still a bit full from that party the Gaim crew held for him, and is happily wearing the hoodie the team had pitched together to get him. It had really been a good birthday so far, and what is going to make it even better is spending the rest of it with Takatora and Ryouma. Spending a birthday with people you cared for had to be one of the best things in Kouta's books, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't curious as to what they might be doing for him. Maybe he should have dressed a bit better, all things considered but hey.
He's telling Takatora all of this as they make their way to Ryouma's lab. Complete with exaggerated hand movements as he tells of what Micchi had organized and what had happened instead.
"Yuuya laughed at him, too, but reassured him that the thought was still there and maybe Micchi might have smacked him," Kouta laughs again. "I really couldn't see cause I got smothered in hugs after that!" And hopefully he'd get more tonight. He feels Takatora brushing against his shoulder, and he feels the warmth, and it makes him feel...
Really, really nice. That's the best way Kouta can put it. The fact that these two became so close to him is still hard to wrap his head around, he's still trying to figure it all out, but he thinks he's getting a hang of it. Kouta, as usual, darts towards Ryouma's lab. Habit, really, considering before they even started dating or were even involved he'd come to visit and just sort of barged in. Only this time he comes to a halt seeing Ryouma already there.
"Woah," he mumbles, not quite sure how to react now that ritual had been broken. He takes Ryouma in, feeling a blush form seeing how the scientist looked in a suit. "Maybe I should have dressed better," he says instead. He may have nice clothes but really just nice jeans and plaid shirts and--
Not suits.

Takatora was dressed in his usual work clothes, which of course meant he looked impeccable, though he looked impeccable all the time. Kouta was laughing at first, which made him as good as glow, and he looked comfortable which was much more important to Ryouma than any preconevied notions of fashion or proper etiquette.
He grinned, because Kouta's reaction is truly excellent. He actually stumbles to a stop, Takatora has to grab his arm to keep him from falling over. Takatora looks surprised, himself. Precisely the reaction Ryouma was aiming for, just by being in the hall waiting for them. The suit was just a... a bonus.
He moves away from the lab door and towards them instead, and manages to catch sight of the tell-tale blush creeping across Kouta's cheeks.
“Oh, shut up.” He said with good nature. “You look amazing.” He reached for Kouta's hand, and gave him a little bow before leaning in to kiss his cheek. “Happy birthday.”

It is rather amazing seeing Ryouma not only waiting for them outside his lab, but also wearing a suit, and Takatora knows that Ryouma must have also remembered Kouta's birthday, even before he says the words to Kouta. He's glad, it means that he does actually care about Kouta, and their relationship with him.
"Don't tell me you also booked reservations for us this evening," Takatora says to Ryouma with that old affectionate half smile he's been giving him since high school. He's fairly certain Ryouma had not, but he could never be too sure. "I had to pull a few strings to get us a private room at Bonsoir."
Takatora moves closer to Kouta once more, resting his palm against the small of his back. "Your clothes are fine, I booked us a private room so that you would not be forced to feel uncomfortable by any unreasonably rude patrons.
"And I thought it would be nice for the three of us to celebrate together in private luxury." Takatora kisses Kouta's other cheek, letting his lips linger near Kouta's ear, speaking softly, and with deep affection. "Happy Birthday, Kouta."
